Residential
Residential architecture is often the primary source of commissions for small architectural firms. This was true of Del Studio at its inception in the mid-1980’s and remains a staple of our practice today. Listening to our clients and understanding how they live enables us to strike a balance between their goals and their resources.

Residential Additions
Residential additions require embracing change and crafting a cohesive vision. We examine and analyze the existing conditions which will serve as the opportunity to enhance the way occupants live while exploring the potential resulting beauty through sculpture, color and form.
Capitol Hill Residence
Del Studio Architects was presented with an opportunity to transform a leaky existing sun room addition with a sagging roof and rotting wood structure into an inviting living space. The shed roof was discarded and a cathedral ceiling with a reverse gable, provided a larger open feeling with circle-top windows over french doors.
Takoma Park Residence
Del Studios Architects was presented with the opportunity to add a second story with master suite and guest bedroom to an existing (see lower left) one-story bungalo style home in Takoma Park, MD. The side entry borrowed elements from the street elevation to tie all the features into a cohesive identification.
Arlington Residence
Del Studio’s goal was to expand an existing two-story wood framed Cape Cod styled residense to accommodate the needs of a growing family. The objective was to maintain the modest, unassuming curb appeal that the house presented, while maximizing the opportunity to expand into the rear yard.
Annapolis Residence
This residence, on Spa Creek in Annapolis, was the recipient of the 1989 Renaissance Design Contest Grand Award. The challenge presented was to redefine the entrance to accommodate a foyer and coat closet as well as to add bedrooms and afford master-suite views of Spa Creek. A two-car garage was incorporated below the first floor.
District Residence
Del Studio designed an expansion of a kitchen and breakfast area. The bay window and gable treatment in the breakfast area led to a similar treatment and design over existing sliding glass doors to bring visual adhesion.
New Construction
Del Studio Architects location in the Annapolis are and adjacency to the Eastern Shore has afforded us many opportunities to design new homes in the many water ways throughout the area.
St. Michael’s Residence
Del Studio Architects was commissioned to design a four-car garage with barn/loft bedroom area as temporary residence for future development. A guest house was added as a second phase. Finally, a 16,000 square-foot main residence served as the culmination of this multi-phased project. The main house has spectacular views of the river and is served by a geothermal heating and air conditioning system.
Eastern Shore Residence
Del Studio Architects was commissioned to design a 5,000 square foot residence on the Tred Avon River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The existing property contained a one-story house, a pool-house and a separate two-car garage. The new residence combined all of these functions with the use of cathedral ceilings, expansive balconies and a two-car garage.
